Andy has been spending his summers on Washington Island since a very young age, at his parents resort, Flath's Cottages. Which has been in their family since the early 1950's. Prior to this, his great great grandparents migrated to Washington Island in early 1880 from Norway.
Andy is a skilled carpenter/artisan and general contractor, with a business based on Chicago's North Shore. Specializing in high-end remodeling, custom cabinetry, and customer service. Such skills have been put up to use since his early years, helping renovate his parents cottages from top to bottom.
His Wife Paola is also experienced in the trades, as a professional painting contractor for over 10 years. She fell in love with Washington Island, the very first time her husband brought her to visit nearly 14 years ago. Since then, they have been committed to helping Flath's resort, and little by little breaking ground starting their own Island life. First by acquiring the lake front A frame in early 2012, and with the recent purchase of the Viking Village. Both endeavors have required their expertise on rehabbing, eye for detail and hard working ethic.
Their children: Julia, Andrea and Rita, have been actively involved with the Island culture since before they could walk, and have been great helpers with all the projects. They have developed such love for this community and are happy to call this place their home. We have recently been blessed and joined by a new member as well. Odin Drew was born November 17 of 2016. It has certainly been a few busy months!
As a family, we look forward to helping you make great memories on Washington Island, while staying at
The Viking Village Motel.
